Angela
Glajcar's paper sculptures mostly hang, floating in the air. They
seem light and delicate, however they show a strong sculptural
presence. Terforation is the title of Angela Glajcar's cubic
pieces. The
staggered arrangement of the vertically hung series of sheets of
white paper, with torn edges, produces cave-like recessions. These
extend into the depth of the sculpture. The sharp ridges and deep
caverns evoke associations with glacial or rock formations while
light and shadow fall on the surface of the sheets, enlivening the
interior of the oblong structure.
The viewer is led into fascinating rooms of harmony and silence.
Terforation,
is originally the title of Angela Glajcar largest paper sculpture to
date, 250 x 130 x 1800 cm. The oblong form of truly striking
proportions floats majestically in the air above the lobby of the
five-storey building of the Nassauische Sparkasse in Wiesbaden.
The
juxtaposition of lightness and weight, transience of the moment and
material presence, as well as light and shadow, combine in the paper
and plastic sculptures of Angela Glajcar.
Radiant white, the plastic scuptures, entitled Lichtschatten,
float in the air. They capture the light, reflect it. Shadows are
visible on the surface, altering the colours and adding countless
shades of grey. The plastic sheets bend and twist with paper-like
lightness, rolling inward and outward; offering numerous views and
insights.
